Barista notes: 

Brews a textured, full bodied coffee for a medium strength black or white filter coffee. 

Tip: Once you’ve added 15g of coarse cafetiere ground coffee, add only 45g / 45ml of boiling water and leave for 30 seconds, this process is called ‘blooming’ and allows the coffee to de-gas producing a better flavoured brew, then continue to add the remaining water.  

As a quick guide, add hot water in line with the top of the metal base which is around 45ml. 



 How To Use :
The key to making better cafetiere coffee press coffee at home is to first think about how you enjoy your coffee. The traditional method will provide a heavy, velvety coffee with coffee fines. This is the coffee most French press drinkers enjoy. If you want a cleaner cup you can follow our specialty method.

Traditional Cafetiere Coffee Press Brewing Method

Remove the lid and filter and add half fill the glass beaker with hot water to heat up the beaker, leave for 45 seconds
Empty the water and add your desired amount of coarse ground coffee or the correct coffee for your cafetiere coffee press. We recommend 15g of coffee to 250g (250ml) of water. As this is a 350ml coffee press it would be 21g of coffee which is approximately 1.5 tablespoons of coffee
Pour in freshly boiled water (ideally filtered water) so it just covers the coffee and then give it a stir. This is called blooming (or degassing) and allows the CO² to escape, leave for 30 seconds
Top up with your remaining water to the maximum fill line or your desired water level and then stir well
Insert the lid and filter but do not plunge, leave to brew for 5-8 minutes depending on your preference
After brewing slowly press down on the knob to plunge the filter through the coffee then serve
We recommend serving all the coffee immediately or pouring into a separate vessel if you would like to keep for later, this will prevent over brewing and the associated bitter taste

Specialty Cafetiere Coffee Press Brewing Method

This is where we change things up. Do not put the lid and filter on but leave the coffee to brew for 4 minutes, after 4 minutes use the back of your spoon to break the crust of the coffee by pushing it down, brew for a further 2 minutes
Using your spoon then remove the crust of the coffee that is on the top and place in the bin or compost, place the lid and filter on the top of the beaker and leave for an additional 1 minute
Slowly press the knob down to plunge the filter but only do this 1/3 down and stop, you do not want to go all the way down
Pick up the cafetiere coffee press and pour slowly. This is very important as we are looking to keep the coffee fines at the bottom of the beaker so you are looking for a slow 15-25 second pour. Do not pour beyond the horizontal angle so the fines remain in the beaker.
